One Year of Commuting by E-Bike: Honest Notes
A full year back, I traded a twenty-five-minute car journey for a twenty-minute electric bicycle trip, anticipating reduced costs and quiet satisfaction. Both expectations were met, alongside several unexpected lessons.
Unexpected joys surfaced quickly: foul weather ceases to be an obstacle once you invest in proper waterproof trousers; gasoline savings offset tune-ups effortlessly; and spinning pedals on the evening trip cleanses workplace stress far better than sitting in traffic jams.
Real inconveniences exist: cold seasons demand insulated gloves, bright headlamps, and earlier morning departures, while safe lockups represent the true recurring challenge. Even so, it remains the most rewarding lifestyle upgrade I have ever chosen.
